Get to know our new GOF Project Manager, Yashna Maharajh
What is your background expertise and how does it relate to your role here at GreenCape?
I am a qualified environmental scientist with a background in the renewable energy, waste management and Carbon foot-printing sectors. I also have experience in project management and occupational health and safety which I intend to draw on in my role as a Green Outcomes Fund (GOF) Project Manager and to contribute to the projects I work on.
What has been your favourite thing about GreenCape so far?
What stands out for me is that the staff at GreenCape enjoy what they do. I also like the content and interactions I have had so far. It has been wonderful to experience a warm welcome from my colleagues from various sector desks
What project have you been working on as you start your role here at GreenCape?
At the moment I am reading through content on the current GOF projects to develop an understanding of the quarterly reporting process. I am also learning more about the green metrics and green verification method linked to each project. I have had the opportunity to attend the Green-Pitch Challenge workshop which was also great exposure to potential GOF projects.
Why do you do what you do?
I have worked with green SMMEs in the past so I understand the challenges that come with it. I aim to empower other green SMME’s to sustain and grow their organizations through GOF, thereby contributing to a stronger green economy
What impact do you hope to achieve?
I hope to work on a diverse range of projects and engage with the team within each sector desk at GreenCape to empower myself and gain knowledge of each sector. I ultimately want to use the knowledge and skills that I have and will cultivate, to contribute to sustainable development and improving green technology
What do you get up to on you spare time?
I enjoy binge watching Netfix in my free time! Recently, I have been rediscovering Cape Town which is now my new home.
