GreenCape hosts Water Security in the Construction Industry Event

6 March 2018

On 28 February 2018, GreenCape hosted an event on ‘Water Security in the Construction Industry’. The event was held in collaboration with the Western Cape Government Department of Economic Development and Tourism, City of Cape Town, PPC and the National Home Builders Registration Council. The event focused on how to foster water resilience within the construction sector in the Western Cape, and included discussions on the use of alternative sources of water, and innovations such as low-water concrete.

DEDAT and the City of Cape Town provided an update on the drought status with a Day Zero debrief. In addition, the various water security responses, supply interventions, and measures that the City has implemented to address the drought were covered.

GreenCape presented an overview of the alternative water sources for the construction industry to explore highlighting the specific opportunities and support offered by GreenCape. The event included a water efficiency case study presented by PPC and concluded with a presentation by ARC Innovations on low-water concrete innovations and insight into variable water quality designs for the construction industry.

GreenCape offers drought business support to enable businesses to become more water resilient. For drought business support and enquiries, please e-mail [email protected] or contact GreenCape’s Water Security in Construction and Waste Economy Analyst, Dr. Kirsten Barnes ([email protected]).
