The Atlantis Renewable Energy Challenge (AREC) is a competition for primary and high school learners to identify local opportunities for products powered by renewable energy.
Teams of up to 5 learners in Grades 6, 7 and 9-11 are encouraged to create or design a consumer product using solar PV. Use your imagination to power up your community!
There are three categories for entering:
- Greentech, Environmentally friendly product, e.g. LED or electric vehicle
- Wellness & Medicine, Product addressing a health issue, or a product to use towards wellness
- Open Category, Any creative product, e.g. solar-powered phone charging station
Entries will be accepted as a poster, a built model or a prototype. The competition will run from 18 July until 2 September. Entries can be submitted during this time to Soraya Copoto or Elmarie September at GreenCape.
Judging will take place on 6 September, where teams get to pitch their product designs to a panel of judges. Winners and runners-up, from both primary and high school entrants, stand a chance to win exciting prizes, such as adventure outings, gadgets and events.
